What to Expect
At Golden Oak Health, your first psychiatric assessment is a thoughtful, collaborative conversation to help us as providers understand your personal journey. This initial appointment is designed to guide us to make the best decisions for your physical and mental well-being. During this 60-minute visit, your provider will ask about your mental health history, current concerns, medical background, and any previous treatments or medications. We may also discuss aspects of your lifestyle, family history, and social supports to get a complete picture of your mental wellness.
This is a safe, judgment-free space where you’re encouraged to speak openly. Together, we’ll work toward an individualized treatment plan that may include medication, therapy recommendations, lifestyle changes, or supportive resources. Questions are always welcome; we’re here to help you feel informed, supported, and empowered on your journey toward better health.

Write down your main concerns ahead of time.
Changes in mood, sleep, focus, or anxiety
Track your symptoms
Keeping a brief journal of when symptoms occur, what makes them better or worse, and how long they last can be very helpful
List your current medications and supplements.
This includes psychiatric, medical, and over-the-counter medications. Note any side effects you’ve noticed
Share your treatment history.
Your past medications, therapy, or hospitalizations give us insight into what has (or hasn’t) worked for you
Bring up lifestyle factors.
Sleep, stress, relationships, or substance use can all impact health
Be open about challenges.
It’s okay if you’ve had trouble sticking to a medication or therapy plan. Honesty helps us find realistic solutions.
Ask questions!
Whether about medications, therapy options, or coping strategies, we want you to understand and feel confident in your care plan.
Set personal goals.
Think about what improvement would look like for you (better sleep, less worry, improved focus, more motivation, etc.).
Consider bringing a support person.
Having a trusted family member or friend join can help with remembering details and providing encouragement.
Plan for follow-up.
